What is your return policy?
We accept returns within a seven day period from the date of receipt. Shipments should be inspected immediately upon receipt and any issues communicated to Paper Thermometer™ within this period. Low temperature labels, those containing 110°F (43.3°C) or below, must be inspected upon receipt and any issues reported that day.

Product usage
How do I use your products?
Product instructions can be found on the package or here.

Are your products certified?
Yes, the temperature sensitive elements in all of our products have been tested with thermometers calibrated by comparison with standard thermometers certified by The National Institute of Standards (NIST).

I want to test the temperature of the air, can I?
Air temperature is not equal to surface temperature. Our products measure the temperature of the surface they are attached to. If the label is freely held in air without being affixed to any surface then it will indicate if the air has reached the indicated temperature. This, however, is not what our products have been designed for, and therefore is not the primary recommended usage.

I am trying to test the temperature of a liquid, can I?
The temperature of a liquid is not equal to the temperature of the surface of its container or the surface of an item in that liquid. Our products measure the temperature of the surface they are attached to. If the label is freely held in the liquid without being affixed to any surface then it will indicate if the liquid has reached the indicated temperature. This, however, is not what our products have been designed for, and therefore is not the primary recommended usage.

The label only partially turned black, what happened?
This likely is the result of label reaching the indicated temperature for too short of duration. Changes in temperature affect the edges of the temperature sensitive element first. This is why the label will often change to black from the edges inward. This occurrence could also be the result of incomplete contact between the label and the surface. The label must be fully affixed to the surface without air bubbles.

How long does the label need to be at the correct temperature before it will indicate?
Thermolabels™ indicate the temperature within approximately five seconds from the time that temperature is reached. Thermopaper™ takes approximately one second to indicate that the temperature is reached.

The label seems to have grayed slightly, what happened?
Graying of the temperature sensitive element does occasionally occur for a couple of reasons. One instance Is when the label is brought near the indicator's temperature but did not quite reach this value. If this is maintained for an extended period then graying can occur.

Are the labels waterproof?
Our 1-Temp and 3-Temp series labels are waterproof. The remaining Thermolabels™ as well as the Thermopaper™ are not waterproof. Liquids and high moisture environments will negatively affect the products performance.

My dishwasher rinse temperature is set to 180°F but my 160°F label did not turn, what happened?
Our products indicate the temperature that the surface of the item that they are applied to reaches. The temperature of the environment that the item is in impacts but is not equal to the item's surface temperature. For example, a plate being sprayed with 180°F (82°C) water will not necessarily reach 180°F (82°C). This is a result of the influence of its prior lower temperature.

My sanitarian is telling me I need 180°F (82°C) labels, don't I need 160°F (71°C) labels?
Probably. The vast majority of the health departments in the United States require items to reach 160°F (71°C) for sanitation purposes. There are few exceptions to this and in those cases the requirement is typically 150°F (65.6°C) or 170°F (77°C). If you were instructed to purchase 180°F (82°C) labels for food service sanitation purposes then there likely has been a miscommunication with your sanitarian. Please contact this individual and verify with him or her which temperature the items in the dishwasher need to reach. Ask this person what temperature labels he or she uses in testing dishwashers. You will likely find that there has been a misunderstanding involving the rinse temperature requirements and the requirements for the temperature of the items in the dishwasher.

I am using your products to ensure that my screen printing ink is curing, where do I place the label?
The label should be affixed to the surface that the ink will be applied to.

Can I just place the label in the dishwasher?
The label needs to be affixed to a surface. Leaving the label loose in the dishwasher will not give an accurate result. It can potentially indicate if the water in the dishwasher has reached the indicated temperature but this does not confirm the sanitized surface temperature of the items in the dishwasher.

How should I store my THERMOLABEL™ test strips?
The longest product life will be achieved by storing the labels at room temperature 72°F (22.2°C) or below and in average humidity. Although uncommon, high humidity and heat can potentially affect the product during storage. A freezer is an ideal storage location. Low temperature labels, those containing 110°F (43.3°C) or below, must be stored under refrigeration. Store the labels in a cool dry place.

Why are THERMOLABEL™ response times approximate?
The response time, the time a label takes to indicate that the rated temperature has been reached, is affected by many variables. The rate of heating and ambient temperature are among the factors that can alter response time. For this reason, response times are only approximations and actual times may vary.
